How the tools work

Estimates from real data, not generic assumptions

Each tool pulls from verified data sources rather than national averages. Your state's actual electricity rate, installer costs in your market (EnergySage), and your utility's export policy all affect the result. The residential tools carry zero federal credit because none exists for 2026.

  1. You enter your inputs

Monthly bill, state, utility name (optional). The tools do not require your name or contact information.

  2. The tool applies verified data

ElectricChoice rate data for your state, EnergySage installer cost averages for your market, and NREL sun-hour data for your region.

  3. You receive an estimate

Payback range, system size, annual savings, and applicable incentive summary. Estimates are directional, not quotes.

  4. If you want specifics, book a free assessment

A real assessment gives exact numbers for your roof, your rate schedule, and your local installer market. No estimate replaces that.

Common questions

What homeowners and businesses ask about these tools

Direct answers. If the estimates raise more questions, a free assessment covers the specifics.

Do any of these calculators apply the federal residential solar credit?

No. The Section 25D residential solar credit expired December 31, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. None of the residential tools apply any federal credit. The Commercial ROI Calculator does include the Section 48E commercial credit (30 percent base rate), which is separate from Section 25D and remains active.

How accurate are the payback estimates?

The tools produce estimates based on your inputs (bill size, state, utility) and verified data sources (EnergySage installed cost averages, ElectricChoice rate data, NREL sun-hour data). They are directional estimates, not quotes. Actual payback depends on your specific utility rate schedule, installer pricing, roof condition, and applicable state incentives. The tools tell you the range; a free assessment gives you the specific number.

What is the Energy Community Checker and who needs it?

The Energy Community Checker verifies whether a commercial project address qualifies as an energy community under Department of Energy mapping. Energy community designation adds 10 percent to the Section 48E commercial investment tax credit, raising it from 30 to 40 percent base rate. This applies only to commercial and business projects; residential buyers are not eligible for Section 48E. If you are evaluating a commercial system, checking energy community status takes under a minute and can materially change the economics.

Can I use the Whole-Home Energy Estimator to model just solar, without battery or heat pump?

Yes. The Whole-Home Estimator is modular. You can model solar alone, solar plus battery, solar plus EV charging, or any combination. The results update based on what you include. If you want a standalone solar savings estimate, the Solar Savings Calculator is faster for that specific question.

Do I need to contact anyone to use these tools?

No. All four calculators are fully accessible without providing any contact information. You do not need to enter your name, email, or phone number to receive estimates. If you want a personalized assessment after reviewing the estimates, a free appointment is available.

Ready to go beyond the estimate and see the exact numbers for your home?

A free in-home or virtual assessment covers your specific roof, utility rate schedule, applicable state incentives, and local installer pricing. No pressure, no shared leads.
